Christ's Creed
I believe that I am a spiritual being living a human life.
I believe that I was created out of love and in my creation, I am granted the Fruits of the Spirit for the highest good of myself and others.
I believe that I am equal to every other human being.
I believe that all creation is a blessing for me to enjoy, and that I am called by God to be the best steward of the Earth.
I believe in the supreme commandments of Jesus to love God with all my heart and others as myself.
I do my best to live a life of compassion and love for others.
I believe in original blessing and free will, and that even though I may sin, what matters more is how much I love.
I partake in the sacraments and enjoy them, knowing that they are a means of grace.
I believe in faith communities that are inclusive of all people and I will respect differences in beliefs as we are all seeking the divine reality.
I believe through Christ I can reach my own ascension!
THIS I BELIEVE!
Explanation:
Christ came to teach us about our dual nature. The world was rooted in the flesh, and he taught us about the spiritual aspects of life.
God created us in his image, and we were created out of love and to be in relationship with God and each other. When we seek a relationship with God, we will be given the fruits of the Spirit which will enhance our lives and those of all we encounter.
All humans are created equal. God loves us all.
God created everything and he saw that it was good. All creation is good and while we should enjoy our lives and the life on Earth, we have a responsibility to treat each other, animals, plants and environment with love and respect. We must protect it from harm.
Jesus said the greatest commandments were to Love God with all our heart and being and others as ourselves. The whole of the law hangs on these two.
I should live my life in such a way that I am loving and compassionate to all people.
Creation is inherently good, and that God has given us free will to choose whether we will do good or evil. While sin is to be avoided and repented of, God is love and when we love we are being our best selves.
I should participate in the sacraments, especially communion and baptism as I receive Grace from God through these actions.
We should respect and welcome all people into the church regardless of our differences. I will respect those who may have different theological viewpoints.
Through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection I too can attain eternal life with God in Heaven.
The Christ Creed was co-written by Archbishop Seijo and Rev. Vaughan in 2013 to help shape the culture of the AFF. They wrote it as a response to the rigid traditionalism and legalistic evangelicalism that has infected today’s church. It is not designed to replace the Apostles and Nicene Creeds, and adherence to its tenets are not required for membership in the AFF, but if you feel that this creed resonates with you, then you are in the right place.
